Compress PNG

PNG files from screenshots, design tools and phones are often far bigger than needed. Optimise them losslessly — every pixel stays the same — or convert them to a palette for even smaller logos, icons and charts.

Frequently asked questions

Is lossless compression really lossless?

Yes. The image is stored with the most compact colour type and the best PNG filters at the highest compression level; every pixel, including transparency, stays exactly the same.

When should I use a palette?

For logos, icons, charts and screenshots with few colours, a palette of 256 colours or fewer looks the same and is often 50–80% smaller. Photos may show banding.

Is transparency kept?

Yes, in both modes.

What if a PNG is already optimised?

If a lossless file cannot be made smaller, you get the original back and the tool tells you so.
